Bereavement Support

Claire, Caroline and Tasha have all completed grief support training and have experience of working with children who have encountered a loss. At The Donkey Den, we combine our grief support work with Equine Facilitated Learning and Forest School activities.

We have all experienced a significant loss in our lives and each have our own unique story. We feel grief is still an area in society that most people feel uncomfortable to approach. We want to help change this. We are passionate about providing grief support for children and young people, enabling them to have their own narrative and process their loss at their own pace.

All people experience grief differently. We are very sensitive and respectful of this; working closely with the child, family members/carers and professionals to tailor the balance and sessions right for the individual.

Although we offer services to children only, if you are an adult just wanting 'space' to feel and grieve a loss PLEASE reach out. Come and spend some time with our donkeys, surrounded by nature, and 'just be'.

We are proud to be working alongside the charity 'Josephine's Star' to provide grief support work for children. Please follow the link below to see how the charity supports children and families across Somerset.

Grief Support Events

THE DONKEY DEN SUMMER CLUB!

AUGUST 14TH&15TH 2025

We held our first ever Summer Club for children who have experienced a bereavement.

We had an action-packed two days of games, panning for gold, donkey time, cooking on a camp fire, a stream walk, and ended with a water fight! We even created a landscape canvas with local artist and member of staff Tess Armitage.

We at The Donkey Den believe being outdoors, in nature, is beneficial for everyone. David Attenborough talks about the link between nature and mental health, particularly when having experienced a bereavement, in the video below.

*These sessions are not counselling. Practitioners that run these sessions are grief support workers.
